Last year, we opened applications for our first ever Literacy Fund Grant, a small grants programme which aims to increase literacy levels in young people across sub-saharan Africa. After many worthy applications and a lot of deliberation, we selected four organizations to award the grants to. You can find out more about each organization and how they’re planning to use their grant here.
We were recently lucky enough to receive thank-you letters from some of the children at M-LISADA, one of the grant awardees.
The Ugandan-based organization is using the grant to run their Reading to the Rescue project, which aims to promote group reading and interactive learning through reading aloud, quizzes and book discussions. Many children living on the streets go there to read and write, with many of them having fled war-torn states. M-LISADA strives to inspire comfort and confidence through various arts projects, and endeavour to never turn a child away.
Here are (just a few) of the letters we received from the children – we loved reading these!
